Hi Nancy,
I live in N.Tx (DFW) area and my husband and I moved into our first home in 2008. The house already has established shrubs and one Live Oak tree but I want to make it more attractive. I need help coming up with a plan. I love to play in the garden and dig holes but I am "stuck" on coming up with a design.

Dear Kristen,
Coming up with a good landscape design takes some good thought and talent. You are smart to be thinking about putting a plan together first. You will find the initial output of time and funds will more than pay for themselves in the long run. You will have an exciting plan that adds to the street appeal of your house with plants that you like and can maintain.
I would be more than happy to give you a general direction by looking at pictures. You should use someone in your area to put together a simple plan and specify the plants. I get most of my business referrals from word of mouth. Talk to friends and colleagues about who they use. Have a consultation with the designer and possibly just a field sketch will fill your needs. This is the most cost effective way to get a design. It will definitely get you started in the right direction. I wish I was closer to do more, but please send a pic, if you wish, and I'll give you a general design direction.
